Over the years, teachers have used MANY different planners to help students write structured five-paragraph essays. Now that we have Common Core Standards and SBAC testing, the focus has shifted from formulaic essays that take weeks to write - to just being able to write well on demand. Your writing still needs to have an introduction with a thesis statement, focused body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the "5-paragraph essay rule" seems to be a standard that is fading away. You might write 3 paragraphs, or you might write 20 paragraphs! The focus is on you understanding what you need to do, and how many paragraphs that takes will be up to you to figure out.
One concern that all of the teachers have is that we have given our students planners for every essay, but during SBAC testing, you will just be given a sheet of blank scratch paper. That means that you will need to figure out how to take notes, plan, and draft your essay on your own. With that in mind, you will need to decide how you will plan your writing.
Evaluate each planner, and see which one: 1) Makes sense to you 2) Will be easy for you to remember and do on your own if needed
